2003-03-11 09:22:00 | Hi Guys I would just like to share with you the success I have had recently getting rid of objectionable Spam . Id been plagued with Spam from a porn site, Im a big boy and normally I would just delete it maybe take a peek but my kids use the system and I didnt want them thinking that their old man was some kind of creep . :8} First of I foolishly unsubscribed from the servicethat worked well . Then I tried setting up rules in Outlook to filter the messages out . That worked for about a day . These cunning sods operate from several domains and change the From name and subject line daily . You can appreciate that I had a rapidly growing set of rulesthat never quite kept up . I had read a bit about Spam killing applications and I found Mailwasher on a site somewhere and decided to try it out . My feelings at this point are that it is a very effective program . It has highly configurable rules . You can use wild cards and Regular expressions to catch Spammers . One of the most powerful features is that Mailwasher can bounce black listed mail back to the sender . This is probably the best way to let them know they are wasting their timemany lists servers will automatically remove bounced messages . I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that Mailwasher originates from Christchurch ;-) Cheers oldfart

Its written in perl so it basically runs on anything (there is a special windows release which includes perl). The only feature it lacks is dropping the spam before its downloaded from the server which sucks when your getting 700K attachments with it. |

2003-03-11 10:13:00 | Well when I get people offering to enlarge my breasts without me asking I just have to turn them down. I don't WANT them to be bigger. I don't need *other* body parts to be bigger either otherwise I'll have difficulty walking. ;} I don't want to give my bank number to people from Nigeria, Sierra Leone etc. Had one arrive tonight who couldn't even spell the name of the Country.

2003-03-11 18:38:00 | In short they found out his email and home/business address and then signed him up for anything and everything, both email and snail mail so as to give him a taste of his own. He was not a happy chappie. We use mail washer here as well, works very well, we have reduced our spam from many a day to a couple of stubbon ones plus the odd one that likes to try there luck from time to time. Only time Mailwasher does not seem to work for bouncing is when the senders address has been spoofed as your own to yourself, of course you cannot bounce back to yourself. Porn sites seem to do this. I was in contact with mailwasher a while ago about the problems of forged addresses and / or where the senders address and the reply to address are different, they are looking at that along with other improvements.

2003-03-11 18:45:00 | A linux program Kmail will bounce Email after you have downloaded it, I heard of someone, used Kmail to bounce a junk mail, but while it was in the outbox, copied it back and forwards between outbox and drafts, until there was about 3000, then to use his words logged on to Internet and did a "mail drop" it took about half an hour to send them all off, he said it worked too, his weekly porn junk mail stopped.
