127268 2003-03-11 08:00:00 Hi,

I have a friend who has a problem with his brother installing a lot of junk software (which has spyware etc.) on his computer, which is causing it to slow down dramatically.

I suggested splitting his hard drive, and multibooting so that his "copy" of Windows could be how he likes it, without the system slowdowns, while his brother could do whatever he likes without harming my friend's computer usage.

Does anybody know how this can be done? I know it is possible, but I don't know what software to use to do it. I suppose partitioning the hard drive would be a start.

Thanks

127269 2003-03-11 11:14:00 I have Windows ME, Windows XP and Mandrake Linux on the same hard drive. Windows systems have to be on a C drive, Linux can be anywhere.

If you wish to run two versions of ME at a time, Format your drive & split it in to 2 primary partitions for you systems, and as many logical partitions as you like. Use FAT32 for your format so that size doesn't matter. I suggest that you use "Partition Magic" to do the job. You can only have one active primary at a time, so when make one active the other hides. This in effect gives you two C drives, as the computer can only see one of them at a time. Activate the 1st primary with "Partition Magic" & then install Me. Hide this partition & activate the second primary & install ME.
Install Boot Magic (comes with partition magic), this creates a Menu with activates the partition that is required.

You can have up to 4 primary partitions on one hard drive, so it is possible to have 4 Windows systems at a time.

When you have one version of ME up & running if you use "Norton Ghost" and make an Image file of that partition, you can then duplicate it to any other primary partition. This way when your brother messes up his Windows, all you do is format his partition & dump the Image to it. Only takes a few minutes & all your drivers, settings etc are installed.

It takes be 15 minutes to completely reinstall my ME or XP.
