127224 2003-03-11 00:17:00 I am trying to get some files off a friends computer that he needs to reformat but he really needs the data that is on his computer.

His operating system is Windows ME.

I have tried to get hold of an external CDRW so that I could burn the data onto CD's but cant get hold of one.

My other thought was to wack a NIC into his PC and connect it to mine and do it that way. However I dont know if I am going to have enough room on my computer to put the data onto it and then use my CD Writer to backup his files.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

I have never networked a Win XP and a ME machine together, is this hard or is there anything i need to know before going ahead with this?

I would appreciate any help.

Cheers.

127225 2003-03-11 00:36:00 Its DEAD EASY :-)

Of course some people do run into problems, but it can likely be solved.

The other option is to Zip the files and send them across the network.

Try DSE.co.nz or QMB.co.nz if you're in auckland for NIC's at a bargain price. It uses the RealTek chipset so it should be standard in ME and XP!

Just give us a yell if you need a hand getting it setup :-)

Cheers

127226 2003-03-11 03:59:00 put his drive into your pc and burn the data onto disk with your cd writer. tweak'e (174)
127227 2003-03-11 04:07:00 Put it in as a "Slave" - don't boot off it.

127228 2003-03-11 04:24:00 Easiest way would be to just network the 2 comps 2gether with a crossover cable (lots of help on this on this forum!) then share his drive and burn his data directly off his disk onto your CDRW - no need to copy his data onto your comp. jeep (1673)
