127445 2003-03-12 23:31:00 I wrote to a company in Israel asking for contact details for their NZ distributors for a repair of their product.

No response and that was using the contact form on their website! I suppose language could have been a barrier (maybe) but it wasn't a good look.

Trying to find their NZ distributors through the phone book also didn't work (another bad mark).

It's an internationally known product and I ended up having it repaired through the local retailer.

With small firms it is possible that the response is not immediate. We tend to think of emails as being as fast as phone calls. It is however possible that the person who checks the email is out of the office or on holiday. Some very small firms may only check their email every other day if it is not used much by either their clients or themselves.

127446 2003-03-13 00:15:00 Hi Heather

Did you try this site? (http://www.acourt.co.nz/) It has the agents for an enormous range of products, and if you find a similar product, sometimes they can tell you their competitor's local distributor.

For your specific example, did you buy the product in NZ or overseas? It can be hard to find local service for a product not imported and sold locally. If the local retailer sold it to you surely they knew where they got it from? I presume it was no longer under warranty.

Cheers

127447 2003-03-13 01:27:00 Purchased locally but no longer under warranty. No problems fixing it through them.

I just wasn't impressed with an Internation Company with an excellent reputation for their products being so hard to find or contact!

127448 2003-03-13 01:33:00 Tried your site but they don't show. Obviously the distributors act as agents for them under their own name.

It would have helped it the company had listed their agents somewhere useful - like their website, the warranty form, the back of the box...

Just another example of bad communication practices within business.
