127478 2003-03-12 02:12:00 I often go to the GREAT website "childrenwithdiabetes.com" for advice and support.
The chat rooms have just been updated and now I can't get in. :-(
I've have cleared all my cache as they advised, but I'm stuck at the bit where they say that they use Port 8080 whereas standard web pages use Port 80
"This port may be blocked, please ask to have it made available"
I don't know where else to ask but here.
Any advice much appreciated

Many thanks
Jane

127479 2003-03-12 02:29:00 Who is your ISP?

They may be blocking port 8080 or you may have firewall software like Norton Inter Security blocking that port.

127480 2003-03-12 07:29:00 My ISP is xtra; would they do a block??
I have no firewall that I know of.

Why would xtra block Port 8080?
Would going to that site be inviting unwanted viruses etc.?

127481 2003-03-12 09:30:00 Xtra do not block port 8080.
I use that port to obtain security certificaltion for a site, and it works fine.

Do you have any firewall software running? If you are using XP, you may need to turn off the internal firewall that is set "on" by default.

Advise your connection type (dial up, cable or Jetstream) and your operating system (Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, NT, XP) and what applications (such as antivirus software and firewall) that could be running.

127482 2003-03-12 09:35:00 And I have just confirmed that I can access the site fine.
They did change settings yesterday according to the site, as you say.

I would suspect your PC has a firewall software application running.

Did you actually try to go into one of the chat rooms? Can get in the site but tried the chat room and it failed. I would say they have a problem at their end. Send them an e-mail because I have tried from my ISP and work and both refuse the connection.

127484 2003-03-12 09:47:00 The chat site seems to have a problem as I tried a test login and it would not go through.
You might like to email them chat@childrenwithdiabetes.com. and ask them to investigate.

127485 2003-03-12 09:51:00 Yes I enetered a username and logged into the chat room. No error message. Full access.
My ISP is Xtra, I connect via Jetstream and a router.
I do not have any firewall software running.
Using Windows XP

127487 2003-03-12 19:28:00 Thank you all for your help.
I am running Win 98 SE, I use a dial up connection, and I have Norton Antivirus 2003 running, nothing else that I know of.
