127414 2003-03-11 20:41:00 I have received one e-mail eight times and although I may read my mail in WEB mail there is trouble downloading. After 3 e-mail it goes off line.
Is this a software problem or server.

127415 2003-03-11 20:58:00 Some emails with illegal characters or large attachments can cause problems when downloading with a program such as Outlook Express.

You can select that particular message in Web Mail and delete it from the server.
This will then allow you to download all messages when you use your normal mail program.

127416 2003-03-11 21:16:00 oldaddy76,

There can be no end of possible causes for this one, not that i am 100% what the problem is as i'm not sure what you mean by "goes offline"

Do you mean it disconnects from the internet alltogether, or you get a "time out" error picking up your mail?

If it is the fist scenario, i have prepared a little how-to to help you out here. I don't know what your operating system is, and the how-to is made for ME, but hopefully will be close enough to whatever you have.

Go to start > control panel > dial-up networking.
Right click on the dial-up icon as per Here. (something.orcon.net.nz) and select properties
In the the thingy that opens next, open the "dialing" tab as per Here. (something.orcon.net.nz)

Note that in this example the box saying "enable idle disconnect" is unticked. If this is ticked it may be the reason why your system "goes offline" while collecting email.

If this is not your problem at all, write back letting us know more. Letting us know what operating system you have will help too!

---- O well, i got to do the dishes and hang the washing out now!

127417 2003-03-11 21:33:00 I think he is referring to the mail server timing out or not responding in xx mins as it is getting stuck on a message and each time he attempts to get the mail he gets the same messages again until it stalls on he problem one. Jim B (153)
127418 2003-03-11 21:44:00 Timing out in a very short time is the correct description.......I have already been to web mail and eliminated all mail not required which was 50% but sometimes I like the various newsgroups.... and attachments....98SE...Outlook 6 .....P3 600. Thanks to those who have responded I will follw up soon.... oldaddy76 (2822)
127419 2003-03-11 21:51:00 Jim B,
Yes he indeed may be, allthough it sounded remarkably similar to how a problem was explained to me a couple of weekends ago that turned out to be that large mails were not getting in because of auto disconnect pulling the plug each time. That to may produce 8 copys of the email that did come in. Xtras PoP3 server just kept bringing in more copys of email 1, the the machine dumped the connection on Email 2.

127420 2003-03-11 21:57:00 Oops!
The last post was a little obsolete when i posted it.

oldaddy76,

I'm just wondering if you are downloading from the said newsgroups while you are picking up mail?

newsgroups are a bandwidth hog, and will make picking up email at the same time S-L-O-W, posibly slow enough to cause timeout errors. I have to shut kazaa sometimes if i have VERY large emails for the same reasons, and thats with a cable connection!

127421 2003-03-11 22:06:00 Anything is possible but if the idle disconnect setting there was set at a very low figure it would affect everything including web sites if the connection was idle for the set period.
As he could go to web mail and read mail without disconnecting it was safe to assume this was not a factor.

127422 2003-03-11 22:12:00 I have received many long time females in the past but that is not NOW. I feel quite stupid because when i went into the control panel I could not find DIALUP networking but I would swear I have seen it somewhere many times in the past.
Yes I too must do the dishes and out out the washing.........
Oh the glory and the wisdom and appreciation of the elder years.....but there is ALWAYS something to learn....

127423 2003-03-11 22:12:00 You could try increasing the server timeout setting slightly, it may help.
With OE open got to Tools/Accounts/Mail tab
Select Properties
Select Advanced Tab
Increase the server timeout to about 3 mins
