127791 2003-03-13 16:24:00 Hi,

I would appreciate if you could help me with a problem.

I need to calculate the number of days between two dates in excel.
In Column (A) I have a list of start dates and in column (B) I have a list of Finish dates. These are currently in dd/mm/yy format. I would like to calculate the number of days between these two dates. I have read around on the Internet and I cant seem to make any sense of some of the explanations. Is there an easy way of doing this?

Regards,
Phil

127793 2003-03-13 19:48:00 Dates are actually stored as a number (I think it's how many days since 1/1/80). If you enter a date it automatically converts the date to a date format.

In cell C1 enter A1-B1. (C1 will now contain a strange earlier date because it is a lower number)
Highlight the C column (click the "C" heading)
Format; Cells; Number Format - choose your number type.

Copy C1 down the C column and the other numbers will appear.

127794 2003-04-16 02:16:00 I came across an answer to this today in a US PC World. There is an undocumented Excel function, DATEDIF, which does exactly this.

Documentation here (www.cpearson.com).
