ie. 330 mg on a 56 k dailup as a example . or is there a site to go to to do this..

128164 2003-03-14 22:53:00 a bit of an open question. how fast do you download at and how fast can the server upload to you?

on a good connection your proberly looking around 20-24 hours.
most download managers will give you an estimite on the time it will take.

it is like connecting to the download 3 times and downloads 3 seprate parts at the same time (there for optimising your connection)

128166 2003-03-14 22:59:00 oops on a 56k there is no true way to detrman yout download speed, not here in New Zealand atleast. some ISPs in USA give you a full 56k in newzealand it veries. and it is also determand on how fast the other computer is sending the information to you sc0ut (2899)

i don't mean to be rude thats bull. most phone lines won't allow a full 56k speed anyway(and the states are restricted to 52 or 54 kbs). as far as isp's go it depends on if they get overloaded or not.

to determine actual download speed, download a compressed file (mp3 or movie) from a good server during offpeak times and use an app (either network analyser or dowload manager) to see the actuall speed you are downloaing at. repaeat a few times to get an average.

the reson why they run at that is because of the ISPs T1 and T3
"A dedicated phone connection supporting data rates of about 43 Mbps. A T-3 line actually consists of 672 individual channels, each of which supports 64 Kbps."
So is this bull?
because most sites i've been to say that the lines are 56/64kbps

128170 2003-03-14 23:25:00 Scout this mutli-downloading you talk about, it is good if you are getting low speeds from a single connection, lets say you were only getting 2.5k hence by creating another connection you could therefore double it and get your 5k that your modem runs at.
however if you can connect to a site and download at 4.8k or above i would not recommend having multiple connections, this is because it brings in TCP/IP overheads, so while by making multi connections you might move from 4.8k to 5k it fails to take into account the added overheads.

wooow w8 what is this? i'v never herd of it and it kinda makes sence. i use DAP at home on my ADSL and sometimes at work with 10Mbps Fiber. how do i find out more info on this?
