128088 2003-03-14 09:17:00 I switch my soundcard between 5 . 1 and headphone setup quite a lot, and am sick of using the Surround Mixer to do this .

As such I am contemplating writing a small taskbar program to automate this task on a one click basis .

My question . I have discovered what all the registry settings I need to set are . However setting the registry alone does not alter the speaker setup . I suspect the file EMU10kx . ini in Windows\System32 also needs to be altered . Unlike most . ini files, this file is not ascii . I could go into the hex of it, but don't really want to . Can anyone offer any pointers to me in modifying this file (if this is the file that I need to modify!)

Go sendto

Deaktop (As a shortcut)

Now, in there you should be able to choose the speaker type, be it 5.1 surround sound, or headphones in one of the advanced/spaker options...

Takes about 5 seconds :-)

Hope that's what you're after.

128090 2003-03-15 08:17:00 Thanks for that - not really what I needed though.

Basically I'm looking for a way to programatically control the speaker output from a Creative SBLive card.

Your post did give me the idea of controlling this through the Windows settings, rather than the Creative settings, however I'm unsure what affect this would have on software expecting to use the EMU10kx chip to output to 5.1 channels (in the Creative settings), when I only have headphones setup through Windows Sound & Audio.

128091 2003-03-15 08:19:00 Further to my last email to you, the Windows and Creative settings are in fact the same. So in theory if I can nail the Windows registry changes that take place, the problem should be solved! azza (1610)
