128471 2003-03-15 21:58:00 Hail ye all,

Can some one please help me show a step by step instruction to create a PDF document using links to direct users to other parts of that same document.?

If that doesn't make sense, how about this...

I want to create a document, just like a web page that has links, so that anyone reading that document alone, can click and be automatically be directed to an area somewhere on that document.

I've only managed to get so far to using the Adobe Help file and stumped?

Strange but true.....
Thank ye all

128472 2003-03-15 22:03:00 The only way I can help you is,

Go to the help file and type in "Hyperlinks"

I hope that someone else who has the software could help you more.

128473 2003-03-16 00:04:00 What software are you using to create the .pdf? Heather P (163)
128474 2003-03-16 00:14:00 OK, a bit slow, I see it in the heading! " Adobe Acrobat 5 . 05"

I assume you are using the full Acrobat (rather than just the Reader) . My version is version 4 so there will be similarities .

Down the left hand side there should be a menu of icons . Look for the one showing 2 links in a chain .

On mouse over the title should come up saying "link tool" . Click it . Drag your mouse over the words you want to link . When you release your mouse the "create link" dialogue box will appear .

Change the "Action" to "world wide link" and edit your URL .

128475 2003-03-16 04:21:00 Hi Heather,

This is exactly the point where I got stuck......and where I refered to going online to Press F1 for extra intuition..

You see, after using the link tool, and using the mouse over the words in which I want to link to, inside the "Action" dialogue box, I was abit confused, between "World Wide Link" and "Go to View"

The World Wide Link, I am assuming is where I want the user to open up a Web Page from a Web location.

Indeed, technically, this is what I want to do, but on the otherhand, I don't want to open up another web page, site, or some other web location as such, but allow users to click a link and move anywhere within that same document, instead of having to scroll up and down and spend endless time just trying to find the exact location.

Hope this makes sense to you or anyperson who may be able to also help.

Hail Caesar!!
Thanks

128476 2003-03-16 04:25:00 Ok Eric,

This is what I had already done in the first place.

The instructions though, only go so far, and meeting my needs for users wanting to use my PDF file, using links that can be used on the same document, somehow are not available to assist me in this sense.

Other docmentation for links so far, only allow users to open up Web pages, etc.. as this is not what I want users reading or using my PDF File for.

Thanks

128477 2003-03-16 04:33:00 Perhaps the "World Wide Link" will link you to another document "somewhere out there". I think you might need the "Go To View" option to link to other parts of your document. Presumably the Wizard will allow you to make the Anchors needed. Graham L (2)
128478 2003-03-16 04:36:00 I think what you are actually trying to do is done through "Bookmarks".
I'm not 100% sure but you might try looking at Help > Bookmark. It's a long time since I created a .pdf file.

128479 2003-03-16 05:05:00 Rule number 1. Save document BEFORE playing with links (thus, if you really foul up you can close without saving, reopen and try again).

"Go To View" sets the page to a different size. Ignore this one.

My guess would be "World Wide Link".

Having said that I went off to play ... and see the problem. You could point it to a name but I can't find a way of setting a name to link to.

Other option would be Bookmarks - Windows, Show Bookmarks. Not sure how this totally works, they may have improved it in your version.

128480 2003-03-17 09:04:00 Hi all,

Thanks for your replies.

I think that "Elephant" hit it right on the button. I did the bookmarks not so long ago, and my guess though, I can't be too fussy....and yep, Heather P, thanks for your help.

If any body have any recommendations, or suggestions or remedies, keep posted. If not, if theres not any, most appreciated for the help given.

Thanks
