128334 2003-03-15 20:00:00 I have been running AdAware 6 for the past month or so. I run it every morning at start up.
Every day it finds between 4 and 16 examples of "Data miner". I,m getting fed up with it and am thinking of letting data miner take over.I,m told they don't do any harm and until I installed adaware I didn't know they existed. It has never found anything else.
I guess the scum that send spam have got to get their addresses from somewhere.

128335 2003-03-15 23:58:00 Those "data miners" could be cookies picked during your web browsing. If you want to prevent (some of) them getting onto your computer in the first place you could try cranking up your cookie settings to block them or use a cookie blocker. Or maybe use a Host file.

Adaware rarely picks up data miners on my PC -- maybe I am a boring surfer! :D

128336 2003-03-16 00:34:00 do a search on your HDD for the names and manually delete them usually in the temp folder where they reinstall themselves on each boot up kiwibeat (304)
128337 2003-03-16 00:34:00 I also use pest patrol and spy bot along with fix it kiwibeat (304)

There is no need to go hunting for and deleting the files - AdAware does a very good job of finding and deleting them for us. That is its job, after all.

128339 2003-03-16 01:37:00 Is it possible that Adaware is also a spy ware? some one check TiMĀ©:*) (977)
128340 2003-03-16 01:46:00 Thats the great thing about the internet...Collective intelligence. If someone tries a sneaky, usually someone finds out about it and then everyone knows. BTW, dataminer is only a tag put on by adaware, if you want to know specifically, expand the righthand column and those familiar names will appear...fastclick etc.. It's just like at home...do your housework (except it is on a PC.) Live with it or don't connect to internet. Pheonix (280)
128341 2003-03-16 01:48:00 FYI Another neat freebee is Spyblaster. It changes settings in registry so diallers etc can't install. Nifty. Pheonix (280)
128342 2003-03-16 11:56:00 Not a direct follow-on, but...
If you want to demonstrate AdAware to anyone, simply have them visit Xtra's home page. Don't click on any links, just look at the page and then shut it down. Run AdAware and, lo, you have a miner. Scouse.
