128378 2003-03-15 11:01:00 Am I right in thinking that downloads are faster at the dead of night, when fewer local people are on the internet, than at peak periods? or doesn't it make any difference? ssssss (2100)
128379 2003-03-15 11:11:00 Generally yes.

Depends on what you are doing and what sevrer you are at.

Just people like you and I are up at the moment in NZ.

PressF1 server just happens to be in Auckland.

It is nearly mid day in the UK

128380 2003-03-15 11:17:00 Should say that Neotrace goes through 10 nodes to get to PressF1 from Tokoroa. My ISP is Xtra.

Very often its only 15 nodes to the UK.

128381 2003-03-16 00:04:00 I am not sure about downloads being faster in the dead of night because I am not awake then :D but I do find them a lot quicker first thing in the morning compared to early evening.

That would seem strange because the northern hemisphere would be cranking up their downloads during that time (our early morning) so I guess it is affected by the smaller load on my ISP at that time.

Couldn't the fact that there are more users online then and as KaZaA "segments" the download so it can be received faster be a thingy too? as the more users there are, the more segments it can be divided into, and the faster you can receive??? :D
