| 128314 | 2003-03-15 10:47:00 | Does anyone know what happens if I decide that I do NOT wish to register my copy of WinXP (which is legal and paid for) ? | dedfred (3113) | ||
| 128315 | 2003-03-15 10:55:00 | You don't have to register it, but you do, have to activate it! | Archibald (180) | ||
| 128316 | 2003-03-15 11:33:00 | I do not bother with the registration process, its not compulsory. I do activation only (which I have just had to do, replacing another failing HDD). That part is painless. |

| 128317 | 2003-03-15 19:44:00 | Slightly OT. What's with tis activation nonsense? I installed and activated XP the day it was released. In the next three months about another five install and activate.(My fault). Still no problems. New HD, install and activate. no problems. New MB , CPU, power supply,ram, video card, and HD. Installed XP and braced myself for an arguement with MS. No problems it activated instantly. Finaly another HD (Why don't HD's last more than a month or two?) Still no problem activating. I have never heard of anyone being unable to activate. On the last install on a new HD the activation was so fast I doubt if it even contacted MS. I'm now thinking of reinstalling my beta disk of XP professional to see if it still works. At least I am now an experting at formating and installing XP. Jack |
