129159 2003-03-18 07:06:00 While connected to the Internet I sometimes find unsolicited messages pop up in grey boxes - completely unrelated to the page I am viewing and generally pornographic in nature. Where are they coming from, and how can I get rid of them?! Sometimes they arrive when I am downloading e-mail into Outlook, without even having a browser window open.

I have Win2K, a dial-up internet connection, IE 5.5., Norton Antivirus 2002, and regular scans indicate no viruses present.

129160 2003-03-18 07:26:00 Download a free program called spybot and it will clean all the sh*t out that you have picked up somewhere. Should stop it happening. Might pay to utilise a firewall as well. ZoneAlarm is also free and works well. Pheonix (280)
129161 2003-03-18 09:43:00 Turn off your Net Send feature. It tells you how to here (www.lantalk.net). Susan B (19)
129162 2003-03-19 01:23:00 Not sure what you meant by 'disable Net Send'. I looked at the link you sent through, and as far as I know I don't have Net Send installed (since I haven't downloaded it).

Do you mean 'disable the Messenger Service', as per instructions at the top of the page? I'm not familiar with the Messenger Service, what it does, and what impact disabling it will have.

Any more help would be much appreciated.

129163 2003-03-19 01:59:00 net send (Messenger Service) is part of windows that you have no choice about installing.

disabling it will have no impact for most home users.

the service was designed so a network admin could "message" all users about network shutdowns ECT.

turn off net send and it should fix your problem.
