129137 2003-03-18 03:54:00 Howdy folks,
Running Win XP Pro with IE6 and Outlook Express.

OE was working normally on Sunday, but when I went to check the mail on Monday, it wouldnt work. When I try and open OE, the page opens showing two panes, folder list and contact list, as per usual. Both panes are empty. It then tries to load the messages into the panes and stops. Within a couple of minutes, the "not responding" message appears. According to the modem light and the number of unread emails in my Inbox increasing, it appears to connect OK and download the emails. It just has trouble displaying them.

I have tried a System Restore, twice.
I have uninstalled IE and reinstalled.
I have done a repair job via Add/Remove programs.
I have looked through Microsofts Knowledge base but couldnt find the appropriate article.

Im running out of ideas.
Any thoughts much appreciated.

129138 2003-03-18 04:10:00 I am not clear what is working or not working here.
Open OE and without connecting (if it tries to connect cancel the connection) select the inbox and do any the messages show.
Can you open the messages .

If you can't see any messages move one from deleted or sent items into the inbox and advise if you can see it and open it.

129139 2003-03-18 05:34:00 A longshot but perhaps worth a shot.
A while back i had exactly the same problem with win xp pro & Outlook Express & it turned out to be my virus checker (AVG) causing the problem.
I turned off the virus checker & I was able to use mail ok.
After a few virus definition updates the problem went away.
If that don't work I would suggest shutting down any other programs that are running in the background & see what happens.

Cheers Steve

129140 2003-03-18 07:41:00 Thanks for your longshot idea Steve.
Worked perfectly.
I did an AVG virus definition update on Sunday and that is when OE stopped.
When I disabled it, bingo, OE working again.

Thanks again. :)
