129100 2003-03-18 02:51:00 Help.
While cleaning up a Compaq Presario Laptop, operating under Win ME, using Iolo's System Mechanic (Preview Copy) Somewhere along the line I have triggered some unexpected nasties either thru' System Mechanic or By uninstalling Kazaa withit's associated junk components and spyware.
On rebooting the Desktop has vanished leaving only My Computer, My Documents and my Network Places. The c:\Windows folder and all its contents had been made inaccessible and the Quick Launch Bar had vanished.
I have recovered the Windows Folders and the Desktop, and I tried recovering the backed up registry. However I have been left with the following problems
(1) No Quick Launch Bar, all the items are in their proper Winows folder but not showing up
(2) The Programs department in the Start Menu shows "Empty", but all the programmes are still in their Windows Folder.
(3) Unable to Rename Files or Folders under either Explorer or Right Click Menu
(4) Right Click "Send To" option shows as "Empty". Cannot create desktop shortcuts or send files to A: Drive .
I have looked for a solution under MSConfig and System Tools but am at a dead end . Any suggestions would be gratefully received

Thanks
Oggie

129101 2003-03-18 03:13:00 I sound like you need to reload windows ME...

Note: you might want to backup all you import data first :)

If you don’t know how to do that then some one here maybe able to help.

or you might need to tack your computer in to get it fix.

129103 2003-03-20 12:28:00 Thanks Steve.

Been there , done that. Still no joy.
My feeling is that deep within the system settings is one setting which affects all 4 glitches. Possibly a registry key which has gone mad.

Appreciate your suggestion

Cheers,
Ian
