I need to know what sort of things are problems for digital photographers. Please post any niggles you have with your camera or the results you get in this thread. I will try to answer as many as I can.

128887 2003-03-18 01:16:00 ...Time Delay software...

Ive asked it and so have one or two others in the past fortnight.

I havent had time to check on my post since I last [bumped] it up, but that'd be something...

To capture 1 image a second, or less....

And saved as an image file?

This is just the first thing that came to mind.

Do you mind me asking why you want to know?

128888 2003-03-18 02:17:00 Time delay software? I think you would need a webcam rather than a proper camera for that, but I will ask around.

Reason I was asking? Working on a book and wondered what people had difficulty with. Especially geeks like F1ers. Did a nightschool course and most were non-geeks so their problems were largely PC oriented rather than digital camera oriented.

128889 2003-03-18 07:09:00 Gee, that's kind of you Robo. :-)

The problems I have taking photos is trying to ensure the photos are not too dark and not too "washed out". I don't know the correct terms to use but I think it is "exposure"? Some photos are far too bright because the sky or a light coloured background is visible in the top ¼ of the frame and the camera has picked that up. I am unsure of what to do to compensate for this as it is not always possible to capture the scene without the bright bit at the top.

It is probably a general photography question rather than a digital photography question, but if you can understand what I am trying to say, do you have any ideas?

No sweat, yes, it is exposure. Your camera might be able to use different metering options, in which case you probably want spot metering. Point the centre of the viewfinder at the important thing, half press the shutter, then recompose the photo and push it right down. It might even work like that without using the spot metering option. Really depends on what your camera is capable of. If you can choose exposure compensation (funny little + and - in black on white and white on black, usually if it is a button) to underexpose the photo a bit

Half the battle is knowing what words to look up in the manual.

Probably not enough info here, but could get you on the right track.
Thanks SB.

128891 2003-03-18 07:53:00 Well Robo, if you come across some software that checks a camera's CCD for dead pixels I would be interested.

I know such software exists as I read about it in a book some time ago, but have lost track of which book it was in, a mag actually, which has probably since been thrown out.

Have you any recommendations for a digital camera .

Don't want to spend huge $ssss . and need something real simple to use (if such a thing exists)

Bet you are going to get inundated with replies to your posting .

128893 2003-03-18 08:18:00 Hi Robo,

I've got a $99.95 digital camera that came highly recommended by the layby lady at the Wharehouse. I'd like to know how to get the same qaulity jpg pics as you do with a Canon/Nikon digital jobbie!

128895 2003-03-18 08:40:00 Curly, try the free deadpixel test (www.starzen.com) it may be what you want..

Iris, I've got an aiptek smart cam 1.3 (www.aiptek.com.tw) for $200... no screen on the back, but does a reasonable job.

Robo, how can I see my pics on the camera (link above) like a drive? it's usb connected, but takes a short while to up load. A friend had a more expensive camera connected to my comp and it seemed so much easier that way.

thanks Trev
