128816 2003-03-17 09:46:00 I have the option of either the Aopen 16x 1648-lky or the Samsung SD616 16x DVDRom.
Which one would be best and what should I be looking for in a DVD rom drive. I want to be able to play them onto my TV with the video out option on my GeForce 4 TI4200 and maybe make backup copies of my dvd movies. Also I would want a region free model.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

128817 2003-03-17 10:28:00 Pioneer DV117 is a 16X which can be made region free.

Very good in my opinion.

128820 2003-03-17 21:47:00 LiteOn 16x DVD drives are good too! Sold heaps of them and had no faulty ones. Can also be made region free. CYaBro (73)

128822 2003-03-17 23:37:00 I have never seen a new DVD-ROM drive come from a supplier region free (been using DVD-ROM drives since they first appeared!)
They usually give you about 4-5 changes of the region then get locked into whatever region you choose on the last go.
Also most DVD software and hardware decoders are the same. Have to use a program like DVDGenie or DVDRegion Free.
