128907 2003-03-17 21:24:00 I run a PIII 730mhz Desktop with 512Mb ram and 80gb in two disks partitioned to four. O/S is Win XP pro and I use Office 2000.

I have a fairly complicated startup, loading winfax, zonealarm, PDF sync software and NAV, along with skymedia software to drive a DBS Ihug ultra broadband connection.

On bootup, I get an error saying “Run DLL as an APP” has failed, ie rundll32.exe (or something trying to use it) has failed.

The main effect to date appears to be that on loading MS Outlook, the app doesn’t lock, but performs extremely slowly, needing minutes between a mouseclick and the desired effect. Downloading email is impossible.

I’ve withdrawn all startup objects except desktop.ini and rebooted, and the error still occurs. If I open my internet connection and use IE6, so long as I don’t open Outlook it appears to work fine.

I’ve tried reinstalling Office 2000 in repair mode, and restoring XP to a restore point two weeks ago. Neither appears to have any useful effect. I also ran NAV and Ad Aware to remove any potential virus or spyware causes. NAV found nothing, but Ad Aware removed six spyware infestations. Again, neither cured the problem.

Any suggestions on cause, next diagnostic steps or short fixes would be gratefully accepted!!!

cheers
