129443 2003-03-19 08:04:00 On my Windows 98 system, if you leave it to boot up, so it ends sitting at the logon prompt window, the dial-up connection window appears. For no real reason.

I believe that this is because I installed Adobe Download Manager to download version 5.1 of Adobe Acrobat Reader, and left it on a setting to resume at next boot. However, I changed it off that setting, and it is now uninstalled, but it still happens, every single time you boot the computer. Can anyone help me get rid of this slight annoyance?

129444 2003-03-19 09:17:00 it could be many toys.

click start , run and type 'msconfig'

look at the startup tab

use this to see what things you have running at startup.

try removing the tick from any that you dont want.

this will make more sence when you are in msconfig.

129446 2003-03-25 08:03:00 Sorry, almost forgot about this thread :D

Have yet to check the msconfig options.

frazer_noble> I don't use Xtra, so if you do, I don't think the problem is related. However, did you recently update Adobe Acrobat Reader to version 5.1, downloading the setup program via Adobe Download Manager?

129447 2003-03-25 09:42:00 Do you use an anti-adware program such as adaware or spybot? Could be you have picked up something along the way. To get msconfig type it into the box that appears when you go start>run Just beware that you may stop something that is meant to run and may not be able to boot correctly. Pheonix (280)
129448 2003-03-25 11:57:00 AdAware etc isn't installed .

As for msconfig:

"ooooh, this could be interesting, you can check a tickbox to have your computer start up in Safe Mode all the time! *stupid grin* *ticking sound* . . . 'You have modified system properties . Would you like to reboot now?' . . . *clicks yes* . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . hey . . . where'd all the purrty colours go?"
