129488 2003-03-19 11:26:00 Howdy folks

I have Outlook Express version 6 .28 and w98se.
Some thing has happened in the last few days to cause the dial up connection to be lost as soon as I hit the send button or if I am in IE and go to OE it drops the connection. The little hooked up computers get a red cross in it and it redials up.
I used goooooooggle with words like outlook, express, diconnects, dialup but no help.
Got me buggered but that dont take much.
It only drops out in OE. I use xtra as an isp and it has never happened before.

Thanks for any help

129489 2003-03-19 11:44:00 In IE, go tools - internet option - connections.
Check that "always dial my default connection" is ticked.

I do not run OE by choice, so I never have such problems but that should fix it I hope.

129490 2003-03-19 11:56:00 Also check that "Hang up after sending and receiving messages" is NOT checked. Heather P (163)
129491 2003-03-19 23:28:00 Yep both of these are already as you say checked and unchecked .
It still does it does it, its real annoying as soon as you hit send or go to OE from desktop or IE it drops the connection and redials.
Thanks for help so far

129492 2003-03-19 23:35:00 Check this.

Tools/Accounts/Properties
Click on Connection Tab
Either Untick the box "Always connect to this account using" or if you leave it ticked make sure that the correct account is showing in the box underneath.

129494 2003-03-20 06:45:00 It almost sounds as if "hangup after sending and receiving" has got locked in somehow even though it is not ticked.
Go back in to options and tick it and click apply.
Do a send/receive and confirm it disconnects.

Go back to options and untick it again, make sure you click apply and try that.
Also while in Options under General untick "send and receive at startup"

129495 2003-03-20 08:27:00 Have you checked the account properties from OE?
Open Outlook Express, go to tools, accounts. Highlight email account that is connecting and click on properties, go to connection and play with the setting there.

129496 2003-03-22 22:20:00 Thanks for your reply I have played around with settings but it still doesnt work.
If I am in IE and I click the OE icon the little green computers lower left get a red cross. It then disconnects. I have to check connect in the dial up box and it redials and away.
If I push send/receive it disconnects as well.
Would reinstalling windows over top of current installation change settings?

thanks

129497 2003-03-23 00:06:00 Do you only have 1 ISP? If as soon as you click on the OE mail button, then it sounds like it is attempting to change dial-up connections. It thinks your mail is with another provider than your internet provider. Check by opening OE, go tools-accounts-mail(TAB) Then select your account and click properties button-connection (TAB) and make sure there is no tick in the box. Pheonix (280)
