| 129655 | 2003-03-20 08:05:00 | I have a Pentium4 on a newish mainboard and 512mb DDR PC333 memory. A lot of the memory is used up by programs running in the background, up to 150mb, but also, not always but quite often, when I have used an application then closed it Task Manager shows that the application remains in memory chewing up resources. The worst offendors are Outlook and Word. The result is that after using the computer for a few days the memory gets so low that any applications have to use virtual memory and the whole system slows down to a dead stop until I reboot. I believe that this was a problem with Win9x but I thought WinXp had solved the problem. Any ideas? Roger |
