129660	2003-03-20 08:38:00	My daughter has a 14 month old HP computer bought from Noel Leemings, running XP. Today, it won't boot past the blue HP screen, and when I told her to use the back up cd, she said it come with none. That the back up is on the hard drive. Well as she can't get it to boot to the hard drive, I was wondering if it is legal to sell a puter without backup discs. Yes I know I may be showing my ignorance, but just am curious. And if that is how puters are sold now, I sure as heck will get my 98SE installed on any new one's I buy.	supergran (108)

129662	2003-03-20 09:24:00	I didn't get any disc's with mine either, just a partition with it all on. Xp is way better that w98 (which just crashes all the time as I remember..) At only 14months old, you will probably still get a response from HP, they've always been helpful to me, way out of my time limit! It says this on mine....-- 'call 0 800-441-147 Monday to Friday 10am-9pm and Saturday to Sunday 10am-4pm Local Time', but you probably can't see that on yours!! 129663	2003-03-20 22:05:00	Hello Supergran, Yeh my HP is the same, it has no recovery disc, the recovery system is on the hard drive, in a partition of its own. I have had some horrible crashes on mine and found it recovers every time with out any problems. Apart from the usual XP restore system, HP have also installed a recovery system that can reached as follows: If you have the XP desktop up, click start, all programs, HP Tools, and then either, 'HP Application recovery' or 'HP pc system recovery'. if the computer won't boot, shut the computer down, wait 30 secs, then press the start button. Before it trys to boot into XP, press F10. it will start a wizard that allows you to either try recovering XP without loosing any data, or you can reformat, and load XP back to its factory specs. If you choose to reformat, you will loose all data that you may have on your computer. Good luck, Robby	Robby (3123)
129664	2003-03-21 02:50:00	Thanks for all your help guys, and yes, I have written the F10 hint down, but I got it to boot up this morning, after her trying safe mode last night, and not getting anywhere. I think she was hitting Shift, when it turned on. But as it didn't even get to a beep, she most likely wasnt doing it right. It only loaded to the blue screen with HP written on it, and would go no further. Thanks also for the info about discs, as I thought all puters had to be supplied with them. Seems dumb to me to have it on a partition if you can't acess it. But guess that is progress. So I now have her up and running again, but you would think a 27 year old should know more about puters than me, and I wouldn't have to go around fixing it. LOL	supergran (108)
129665	2003-03-21 03:11:00	HI Supergran, Glad to hear the computer is up and running again, I have to agree with you, its feels a bit strange to be able to recover without using a disc, but I have found so far, it works well.
