129976 2003-03-21 23:30:00 and want to change it to a jpg, but the only options in Windows Me Paint are *.bmp;*.dib and *.gif so how do I save it as a jpg so as not to make a huge file? Danger (287)
129977 2003-03-21 23:41:00 Hi Danger

From memory Paint can be updated to let it save JPG files, I got into this some time back but can't remember the details. One aspect involved a registry change though, and I think I downloaded a different version of Paint as well.

In the meantime, the fastest solution is to download Irfanview or similar freeware and use that. Windows imaging may also allow bmp to jpg conversion but I don't know it hat comes with ME. I have it on my W98 box so it probably does.

I'll have a play and post back if nothing more helpful is posted by others.

Cheers

129978 2003-03-21 23:43:00 i ussually use ifranview (http://www.irfanview.com/) as my main veiwer. it has basic editing as well. i have no idea what windblows has for coverting pics so i just use the converting optoins in ifranveiw. tweak'e (174)
129979 2003-03-21 23:57:00 Thanks guys, I installed the windows imaging program but that does not have the option either, in fact I couldn't even paste the Screen Print to it. I have sent the image in a word doc, and while not sure if the receiver could open it or not she has replicated my procedure and come up with the same screen image I was trying to send.

Thanks for your help.

129980 2003-03-22 00:22:00 FYI Danger, I have since found that Imaging for Win9x doesn't support saving as JPG but W2K (and presumably XP) does too.

Buggered if I know why you can't paste into Imaging though, it must be a crippled version. I was suggesting you save the screen in Paint then open the file from Imaging and save-as.

Cheers

129981 2003-03-22 01:14:00 Thanks Billy, I have saved it in paint and then I was able to open it in imaging, but still the option to save as a jpg was not there, as you have said. Danger (287)
129982 2003-03-22 06:41:00 I think IE can save a bmp to a jpg.

Ofcourse you can get bette results with irfan view.

I can't see how, can you elaborate JM? I can't paste the Screen Print into IE, the option is greyed out.

129984 2003-03-22 12:52:00 Well if you do a normal bmp with paint. You can open it in IE and save as a different format.

I'm sure it worked last time I tried anyway.
