129872 2003-03-21 10:16:00 Hi noble 101

If you have used CD-RW that could be the trouble may CD players cannot read CD-RW disks.

129873 2003-03-21 10:18:00 Yes, Noble, maybe you do need to replace your CD player. Is it a near new player?

Some older players do not play audio .cda CD-R disks. It's a frustration. Some do, some dont. I have four CD players here. Two will happily play CD-R audio, but the others have problems.

It is likely your burn't .cda disks are ok. Will they play alright in some CD player application on your PC ?

129874 2003-03-21 10:33:00 I am like Bazza too, my older player won't play burnt audio cds either. It sounds like you are burning them the right way in Nero, the only way to check this of course is see if they will play on the computer or in another cd player as already suggested.
2 tips i picked up when trying to burn my audio for older players were this:
1. When burning change the burn speed setting to the slowest possible that your cdwriter will allow - as this sometimes produces playable cds in older players.
2. Try buying & burning onto a proper Audio cdrom - as this also works for some players too.

:-) Goodluck!

129875 2003-03-21 10:56:00 in my car cd player (about 6 years old) i tried 6 different brands of cds.

the only cd that worked is Maxell. so maybe this brand will work on your stereo too.

(also be sure to burn slowly too as sugessted above)

129876 2003-03-21 11:08:00 Good point J ZEP, about the "proper" audio cd-r's

I've noticed these in shops at a higher price. I asked why, and didn't get a satisfactory answer.

Some have suggested they include a levy for the music artists.

On the other hand, I've seen information that they have a special surface coating that enables them to play in most CD players.

If anyone has information on the qualities or benefits of these "proper" audio CD-R's, I'd be glad to hear it.

Thanks..

129877 2003-03-21 11:18:00 None of my CD players have had any problems playing any of my music on CD-R disks. I have used Verbatim, Harvey Norman and DSE brands and all were burnt at 8x speeds. Even the ten year old player surprised me when I got a tune out of it.

Try burning at a lower speed and see if that helps.

129878 2003-03-21 11:48:00 Bazza, most of the imfo i have came from this thread (in paticular Graham L & G. Ps explanations) and subsequent searches, and recently i did an experiment with burning audio to cdrom and then to the "audio cdrom" - my results: unfortunately neither would still play on my "very" old cd player (11years old approx.) - however on trying them on a friends older player only the audio cd played in hers.

129880 2003-03-22 09:24:00 I have noted that one "portable CD player" (brand withheld) would not play recorded CDs either. Perhaps its a limitation on the laser power used on some brands.

You can buy CDR that are designed for music (they say Music Only in some types but work fine for data) Imation make some, and the only difference I can see is the reflectivity. Its a lot closer to the "silver" used by original music CDs. They are not any dearer, you may just need to shop around to find them, as its more likely they would work.

You probably can't burn slower than 4x on late model burners, but basically as slow as it will go.
