1307430 2012-10-18 06:34:00 There is a lot of memory in that pile. The hard drives must have passed their use by date. Bobh (5192)
1307431 2012-10-18 06:52:00 There is a lot of memory in that pile. The hard drives must have passed their use by date. They are probably the hard drives containing the wireless data recordings they captured in NZ while mapping the streets. Jen (38)
1307432 2012-10-18 07:59:00 If it was a choice between having soem of my data owned by google versus using apple maps, I'd gladly hand over my life story. 8ftmetalhaed (14526)
1307433 2012-10-18 08:14:00 Apple map apps are ideal for mapping write-only drives. ;) R2x1 (4628)

Luckily, Dick Smith give them a bit of a discount off retail for the replacements. The old drives look a bit shot.

1307435 2012-10-18 08:35:00 Surely the resale potential for those drives is mich more than destruction? I guess to google a pile of 2TB drives is nothing :( The Error Guy (14052)
1307436 2012-10-18 08:40:00 Surely . . . I guess to google a pile of 2TB drives is nothing :(
Hardly, I just tried it ( . google . com/search?q=a+pile+of+2tb+drives&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org . mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a" target="_blank">www . google . com) and it gave about 12,500,000 results . ;)

1307437 2012-10-18 10:04:00 Nah they'll be faulty drives past their warranty period. Chilling_Silence (9)
1307438 2012-10-18 10:59:00 it does say that on the photo caption. But this is funnier.

Seriously though, check out the links, their data centre looks pretty amazing in a couple of the shots.
