1307332 2012-10-17 07:35:00 Hi, I have a CRT tv in the bedroom and a Sony DVD recorder
in the lounge, both of these have analog tuners only in them.
The recorder is connected to a Sony Bravia digital TV. For the last
two years I have been using the set up in the lounge to record CH 1
when required and everything worked well. Suddenly (last two months)
the recordings of ch 1 are all liney also the old crt in the bedroom only
shows a distorted picture of ch 1. All the other channels are good!
The Sony Bravia shows a brilliant picture on ch 1. I have tried twisting
the aerial to get a better picture for the analog ch 1 but to no avail. Does anyone
have any ideas that may help? I live in Papakura and can see the
Waitakeres, which is the general direction that the aerial has pointed to.

That is quite possible. TV1s signal from the Waitakeres is not strong in Papakura and is likely to suffer more than the other chanels if anything is degraded in your antenna system. Might be a good time to look at changing to Freeview.

1307335 2012-10-17 19:07:00 retune the channel?? GameJunkie (72)
1307336 2012-10-17 19:26:00 retune the channel??
But it's unlikely that two separate tuners detune at the same time.

It is not that TV1's signal is not strong - it is as strong as any of the others - but it suffers from the very low frequency that it uses which does not propogate as well as the higher frequencies. To receive TV1 well, you need an excellent aerial and good (not corroded) connections.

But, of course, as has been already said, you need to change to Freeview. The signal is great! Besides, there are at least three channels on Freeview that are not on analogue - Choice TV is one of them.

1307341 2012-10-18 03:17:00 Yeah Roscoe is correct, TV1 is almost always the first channel to have problems due to it's low frequency. Aerials are a compromise and cover a range of frequencies, a true TV aerial would be even larger than they are already. All you can do is check all the connections as suggested, and check the line of sight for any new obstacles although actually that's where the lower frequency can be better and not so easily blocked.

Analogues days are seriously numbered, if it's going to cost you money then maybe bite the bullet and get freeview. If you already have a UHF aerial then all you need is a set top box or a TiVo or similar and it's all sorted. I have removed my VHF aerial completely from the roof personally.
