1307064 2012-10-29 04:05:00 Hi BM
I dont use Activated Carbon any more . I put the wash through the still producing a 90 0/0 result, water it back to 40 0/0 then add ' Turbo Pure' by Spirits unlimited from the Brew Your Own Shop, leave it for 48 hours then put it through a Carbon filter . The result is a liquor with very low odour and after taste and a lot less messy than added the activated carbon and then having to get rid of it!

Thanks for the "Heads Up" on that one muzza .

Well, for those interested the whole experiment turned out a 100% success in the end . I just hope I can do it again .

I wound up with 6x1L bottles of what I consider very “safe” and 2 bottles of what I think is called Heads & Tails which I’ll put through the distillation process again with the next wash .

I made two bottles of Blue Sapphire Gin, two of ordinary Gin and two of Light Rum . The Blue Sapphire is only 40% instead of its normal 47 . 5% but you wouldn’t know it .

So far I’ve sampled the Blue Sapphire and am sampling the Appleton’s as I type . :dogeye:
10/10 for both so far .

My only regret is it’s taken me so long to find out about this little pastime . I hope the mate that gave me the Still has given up drinking as well as brewing or I guess I’ll have to share . :D
