1333135 2013-03-21 09:06:00 In regards to a gaming laptop, you can probably find something as good or better than anything Alienware has produced for less with another brand. You are paying a bit extra for the Alienware brand and there are a few things which are totally unnecessary (ie multicoloured backlit keyboard). SSD's are nice but beyond being faster to load things they don't do all that much (they do have a longer life expectancy than standard HDD's however). icow (15313)

1333140 2013-04-19 14:13:00 Just an update because it can be irritating when you hear nothing further after helping out.

My son fixed upon a Samsung Series 7 Gamer which was only available at about NZ$2,300 from the USA. Hmmm. I gently explained matters of warranty and support but to no avail. Then I mentioned Her Majesty's Customs and things like GST...

So the upshot is that he compromised (but not much :D) and we bought a 17inch MSI from Playtech. www.playtech.co.nz

While my scottish ancestors will be horrified I have to admit this is an impressive machine. Lets hope it continues lol. The biggest problem is finding a bag which will comfortably hold a 17".

1333143 2013-04-20 00:47:00 I was hoping for more positive comments about ASUS laptops. After using a MBP for approx. 5 years I have to think about replacement. Would like to hear more options for good quality machines. Price can be up to and around 2k. notechyet (4479)
