"The converter failed to save the file"
Marnie; Whilst I was doing the above a box said

1332475 2013-03-13 08:11:00 If you download word Viewer, you have to install the Office Compatibility Pack as well to open docx.

You would be better off doing as Gary suggested, Personally I use Kingsoft office ( free version) on peoples PC's that don't want a MS package. Kingsoft free looks and works like Office 2003 for general purposes, and will open most MS formats. ( not to sure about WPS.) - Works

1332476 2013-03-13 08:22:00 Docx is the native word format from 2007+ versions.

If your openofifice can't read it, it's probably old. You could shove it in google docs as well.

1332477 2013-03-13 08:29:00 I d/l the latest OO and managed to read the doc. Seeing as it's ladies only
and there is no beer supplied, I informed SWMBO of the time and that I had
lost interest. Thanks all for your help.

1332480 2013-03-14 04:01:00 As psycik said, it is a later version of Word.

If you still cannot open it using any of the above suggestions, go back to the person who sent it to you and ask them to resave the document as a Word 97-2003 document, and then send you the resulting file which you will be able to open.

1332481 2013-03-14 04:37:00 Wife came home today and informed me that
everyone at work could not open the doc. I guess the
fault was at the senders end.
