2013-03-18 07:18:00 | Hey all! My GPU has been reaching temperatures of 83c. Is this safe? My PC has like 5 fans in it but it still gets that hot >.< Should I be worried? Thanks!

2013-03-18 07:58:00 | 560ti isn't exactly old. Have you checked it isn't full of dust? Beyond that there isn't much you can do about it apart from checking the fans on the card are actually running, re-applying thermal paste or sending the card back for an RMA. | icow (15313) | |
2013-03-18 08:06:00 | ^^ I'm with icow. Make sure there's ample thermal paste, clean out all the dust, and make sure there's good airflow in your PC. If you've got a small case, ensure the cables aren't blocking the airflow, and perhaps chuck another fan in to extract that hot air. | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
2013-03-18 18:33:00 | You may be able to adjust the fan speed in the Nvidia control panel, 83 is ok for something like a furmark stress test but is a little high if it's doing it while gaming. It's within limits though I'm fairly sure. Also modern cards tend to ramp up the Fans and throttle the GPU if it gets too hot so it's unlikely to get damaged in the short term but running hot will shorten it's life. That said I had one card (first release asus HD4850 not NVidia but just an example) that ran those sort of temps all the time and lasted years without failing - replaced it when it got too slow but it was still working fine. | dugimodo (138) | |
2013-03-18 19:58:00 | My GPU is pretty dusty because the top of my case is open as you will see here: www.cmstorm.com Thanks for assuring me that my GPU is safe from burning up horribly :P
