130632 2003-03-25 01:14:00 Ive just noticed that Ad-Aware 6 is free for personal use only.. Ive installed it on a couple more PC's at home, which I dont think is classified as personal use, so:
is there a program that does a similar job that I can download that is free for use anywhere? Even in a corporate environment, as I will be reccommending it for use at the Cyber Cafe as well, seeing as their PC's are probably swarming with Spyware.

Thanks

130633 2003-03-25 01:22:00 PepiMK software, the developer(s) of SpyBot, don't ask that SpybotSD is only installed for personal use like Adaware - it's free for all. I much prefer Spybot to Adaware as it is less intrusive when scanning also. It takes less time to do a full C: scan, and turns up spyware/adware/registry changes which AA doesn't seem to catch.

Re: the Cyber Cafe, why don't you just disable downloading/installing software on each machine?

I can do a full lockdown of the PC should I choose to do so, so that they cant even push the power button to turn the PC off!

They'd have to unplug the power cable at the back... :D

If I really wanted, I could set it up so that they can only use IE and Office, but what fun would that be, plus if Its my job at the moment (til they offer me full time, hopefully in a few weeks) to clean the PC's etc, and keep software/hardware up to speed, then im putting myself out of a job :p

Look up these programs if you're interested:
Tweak UI
WinGuard Basic
FProt
Object Desktop
and there's one or two others Ive used, but I cant remember...
Oh, one more:
Folder Guard

And you have pretty much total power!
There was a download I used that basically rendered the power switch useless, and you'd need a password to reset also, Must try and find it again :-)

Thanks, I'll look up that software!
