2003-03-24 23:10:00 | I'm setting up a win 95 machine from scratch. It has an external KTX FM-56K-VSE modem and a serial mouse. the problem being that the moment the modem has established internet connection, the mouse ceases to work. This is irritating. The modem uses com1 and the mouse com2 I was unable to find the correct drivers for the modem, and have it set up as a "standard modem 28K" with a maximum speed of 56K. which seems to work for getting it on the net. .Clueless

2003-03-25 01:04:00 | Just checked my old Win 95 computer, for the serial mouse it has the following drivers C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\msmouse.vxd v4.00.950 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\mouse.drv v 9.01.0.000 Are yours same? Just checked COM 1, 2, 3. They are all serial drivers.

2003-03-25 01:10:00 | Try changing the Com port that it the mouse is plugged into.. The Actualy Port Number itself in the Hardware properties... I know you can do it... I'd say that the modem's trying to use Com1 as well, so try switching that in the Hardware properties, or there may be a jumper on the actual modem itself which can be changed. HTH Chilling_Silence

2003-03-25 01:25:00 | Chill... No jumpers, this is an external modem :( The hole its plugged into on the back of the computer conects via a peice of ribbon directly to a plug on the mobo that is labelled "COM 1" the mouse hole conects via a peice of ribbon directly to a plug on the mobo that is labelled "COM 2" All poking around settings shows that modem is installed on COM 1 as well. I'm off to have breakfast.. will get back to this one shortly. BTW.. goldwave is great! .Clueless

Try doing a diagnostic query to the modem and the mouse will die as well! You should be able to simply specify what port the mouse is using in the Hardware manager :-) > BTW.. goldwave is great! :D |

2003-03-25 01:33:00 | As already suggested check the IRQs for COM1 and COM2 in BIOS. COM1 should be 3F8, IRQ4; COM2 should be 2F8, IRQ3.

2003-03-25 01:33:00 | Sounds like the Modem & Mouse have claimed the same IRQ and I/O address. Regretfully, I cant remember how to check this in Win95 but Im sure someone else will. The usual problem was Com1 & Com3 trying to use IRQ4, which was often a default setting. The solution is to allocate a spare IRQ to the Modem and make sure it has a separate I/O address.
