131081 2003-03-26 11:23:00 Modem Settings FOR XTRA

Operating Mode : G.992.1, G.DMT or ANSI T1.413 iss 2 but NOT G.Lite or G.992.2

VPI : 0

VCI : 100

Encapsulation : RFC 2364 (or "PPPoverATM", also known as "PPPoA")

Username: Always needs the extension ".xadsl" after the normal username, and should be entered in the form of an email address, e.g. "john.smith.xadsl@xtra.co.nz"

Password: This should be the same password that you use for your normal account. This can be changed online at My Account if you would prefer to use a different password.

Yes, thanks my username has been checked and re-checked and it does conform to what you have outlined. My password is new as it is a new account to Xtra.

131083 2003-03-26 11:35:00 Thanks godfather - I am in email contact with Dynalink. Pity they are only available on 0800 until 4.00 or 4.30pm, which is rather restrictive as you need to be next to your PC. Misty (368)
131084 2003-03-26 11:45:00 Try rebooting your PC (to re-sync the ADSL modem) and see if you can connect. utopia (2200)
131085 2003-03-26 12:20:00 Booty you can use G.Lite (external ethernet routers only I believe) which decreases latency (ping). Test it out of you like. Ping your ISP on G.DMT then ping them on G.Lite and you'll notice the difference, can try ANSI too if you like.

Good for gaming especially if you are the unfortunate ones who can't get "haxed" dsl (interleaving is off? or something like that).

131086 2003-03-26 12:47:00 Hiya Misty

I too connected to JetStream Starter last week, and posted here detailing my woes. I have Paradise as my ISP. Essentially telecom didn't connect it till the next day - although getting them to admit that was a nightmare. THEN the modem wouldn't connect.

Anyway, I was going through the same issues as you, and have the same modem. I folowed the instructions on the CD as to how to install it, re-installed it several times, and eventually went back to the shop (Noel Leemings) and loaned a replacement modem to see whether it was the modem's fault. It was!

The one modem had two green lights. The replacement has a red power led and a green link led. On the first modem it seemed to be in training mode forever and just blinked at me.

I have found however that to re-connect successfully if I disconnect it that I have to re-boot the PC, as suggested earlier. It is set to Multimode, RFC 2364 PPoATM Null encapsulation, VPI 0 VCI 100 if that helps.

Take the modem back and try another one first is my suggestion.

131087 2003-03-26 12:53:00 I had trouble with Paradise's DNS server today from 8 in the morn till 6 in the afternoon (untill I figured out it was the DNS). I could ping it but I couldn't do anything other than ping it. I changed my DNS to Xtra's one and everythings fine. Kame (312)
131088 2003-03-26 14:41:00 Misty, why the heck did you go with Xtra??

They have the worst plan for JetStart to date...lets compare it to say Paradise...

Xtra
5Gig/International Traffic Cap @ $34.95per month + you payed a joining fee of $27.95. I cant really comment on the speed of xtras service though..

Paradise
10Gig/International Traffic @ $30.00per month + a free email address + no joining fee + friendly, efficient service..got my account activated after a phone call. Also I can get about 16k/s - 30k/s for downloading.

In effect you decided to pay an extra $28 to just sign up! plus an extra $5 a month for the service, you can only use 5Gb of traffic a month and it also looks like their not giving you very good service either..

Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh, but you should probably do a little research :)
