| 131174 | 2003-05-02 23:17:00 | Just to put you out of your misery, and much to my embarrassment, I have to report that the problem was that i had plugged in the connection from the PC to the wrong spot at the back of the router. I had plugged it into one of the four slots which are presumably to connect with your network of PC's (for those that have them). :8} :8} :8} Obviously this was not the problem with the two Dynalink external modems which I had tried before and which took up most of your problem solving time. We will probably never know what the problem was in that case. Too long a distance to cope (though the exchange is pretty close) ? Some other aspect I had overlooked ? Though I certainly put in many, many hours trying all options. ?:| A Huge thanks to Peter Coleman, who I finally managed to catch up with last night. He found and fixed the problem. Like to meet him sometime. Maybe I can repay in some small way sometime. Unload his winter firewood or somefink ! He woudn't take my my offer of beer or wine. :) :) I might catch up with some of you at the ICE Expo, certainly Chilling Silently and his mate at the Microsoft stand. Please don't be too hard on me ! - though bound to get lots of ribbing ;) Thanks everyone !!! |

| 131175 | 2003-05-03 05:23:00 | Good to know its all sorted Misty. Don't be hard on yourself re the wrong port. The uplink port on my switch looks exactly the same as the others except for some very small writting under it (obscured by plug) would be very easy to mix it up. I remeber buying a new modem cable from DSE once plugged it in but didn't test it there and then. Next day I couldn't get on the net, spent hours trying to sort it untill finally the penny dropped. I had bought an American type modem or phone (can't remember which) converter cable which I managed tro plug in without further thought :8} . I bet there are more than a few more storeys like that around here if their authors cared to recount them. Cheers Murray P |
