131482 2003-03-28 08:31:00 I've scanned these posts. Dean didn't tell us his O/S.. although someone asked.

The msg "it's safe to turn off your pc" as I remember is a part of Win95, and then one has to turn off a switch..

Later Windows, after selecting shut down, did their thing of shutting down applications, and automatically switching off, without any switching..

Is this a significent ?

131483 2003-03-28 13:35:00 Actually, Bazza, that's not quite right. I believe the auto power down function is a feature of later motherboards (so it's a hardware related thing, nothing to do with Windows). The "It's now safe to turn off your PC" screen is still in Windows 98 (and maybe later versions, I'm not sure) but you don't normally see it because the motherboard powers down before it appears. 131485 2003-03-28 22:21:00 I have windows ME. The "Its now safe to turn off your computer" message would flash up for a brief instant each time the computer shut down. Dean (3194)
