131830 2003-03-28 23:40:00 If you pay the licence to use an OS on your computer then technically shouldn't you remove that OS from the computer before you sell the machine?

Because you'e got the licence and presumably the disks.

I know this isn't the case, never seen a comp. for sale without an OS installed, so is this just another modern IT anomoly?

131831 2003-03-28 23:50:00 Uh... *slightly confused*...

When you sell a computer, I think you'll find it says in the EULA and all those other things that you must pass on all media used to install the OS, the licence, and, basically, everything, right down to the box (as that usually has a "this is not a fake product" sticker/hologram on it). And that was only for Microsoft Windows.

Oh....Thanks. Never read a licencing agreement. So you should pass on the original disks too then?

131833 2003-03-29 01:16:00 There are 2 type of licence..Retail and OEM. Retail version you can move from PC to PC with the provison that it is on 1 PC at any time. The OEM version (usually that supplied when you buy a new PC) has to go with the PC when it is sold. Pheonix (280)
