131926 2003-03-29 07:27:00 Hiya.

I had this nifty little program that basically password locked my computer so that when someone turned it on they would have to enter a username and password before going into windows still while in dos mode where all the dlls etc are loaded.

Now I have win2k after upgrading from 98 and Access Denied is not compatible with it. Does anyone know of an equivalent to it, and also, how to change the administrator password on your computer once you have set it to something because I want to change it.

Thanks

131928 2003-03-29 08:08:00 Hi Kibito,

To change a password setting in 2K click on "Start" "Settings" "Control Panel" and down the bottom of the control panel window you will find "Users & Passwords"

One way to perhaps get similar results as Access Denied is to set-up a user account with most abilities turned off. Most user accounts I have set up have Restricted Rights so that they are severely handicapped.

Also ensure that control alt delete has been altered to become log on rather than reboot. Then if you also enable a bios password and disable the floppy boot your system will possibly be as secure as with Access Denied

If so, just enable it in BIOS and you will not even get to booting stage untill the password is entered.

131931 2003-03-30 01:40:00 Hi,

To change the Administrator password:

You can either Log on as Administrator and go to Control Panel\Users and Passwords\ blah blah blah....

or if your in currently on a Power User account or whatever, you go to Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Computer Management
Right Click and choose "Run As" type in Administrator Password, and blah, blah, blah...

As for equivelant to access denied blah blah blah...

Right Click the drive or whatever it is,
Choose "Properties" Click "Security Tab" Just make sure you only have Administrator, System, Everyone as the only users. Give Administrator and System full rights. Then under "Name" for "Everyone", just tick the Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read options. Nothing should be ticked under the "DENY" options.

What this does, is that any person except for yourself will not be able to copy any data to that "destination" whether it is a directory, file, drive.

If you only want access as for administrator, then just remove all other users from the list and only have Administrator and System with full Permissions.

Sorry bout the messy instructions am in a rush....

correction: What this does, is that any person except for Administrators, or any person who has full rights, will not be able to copy any data into[/b] that destination, whether it is a directory, file, or drive.
