131881 2003-03-29 04:17:00 I bought a second-hand computer running Win 98. There was a lot of data on the hard-drive which I didn't want, so I reformatted. After the format I discovered it needed a display adaptor driver off the Internet. I went to Download.com and found a driver, but it was for Win 95. I downloaded it, and it allowed me to work in more than 16 colours. However, it appears to have caused all my mouse pointers to go strange, like big striped squares, which is very annoying. Also, when I click desktop icons they go grey, or white with bold black stripes. The same is true of the taskbar icons in most applications.

Can anyone give me a clue as to the problem I have?

131882 2003-03-29 08:07:00 After a reformat, you need to reload all the motherboard drivers. Audio, I/O, and Video. If the Video adapter is an AGP or PCI, and not an on-board chipset one then you will need to get the correct driver for it.

When reloading the correct driver for Video, remember to uninstall the old one first.

Without the correct drivers, your system will be limping along on default settings.

Determine the Motherboard maker and model and search for the correct W98 drivers.
