132102 2003-03-30 02:47:00 Um. whenever I double click on an mpg XP throws up an error "d:\some folder\someother folder\some.mpg is not a valid Win32 application.

& in other news after installing SP1 & attempting to remove access to Windows Media Player 8, it still opens up as the default player when I click on *.avi files...

I really would prefer to use mplayer2, any advice on these 2 conundrums would be appreciated

132103 2003-03-30 02:59:00 Also as an additional note, there is no problem running mplayer2 & then just drag & drop an mpg into it... that runs fine flying_green_leprachaun (1767)
132104 2003-03-30 03:10:00 Somehow you have got . mpg classed as an executable file type . Try right-clickicking and Open With, and select "always open with this" . A similar approach should fix the . avi .

FAQ#13 "Changing File Associataions" should explain it properly . :D

132105 2003-03-30 03:29:00 Ah! that explains it nicely. I was attempting to get the default media player to be mplayer2 & I chose the mplayer2.exe as the application to open them with as I havnt been able to get mediaplayer 8 to buger off, despite using the SP1's "choose your media program" function.

well, that solves the problem of why they arent valid Win32 applications.

Now how do I stop Media player 8 from opening them, & set Mplayer2 as the default?

-Options

Click the File Types tab and untick what you dont want to be associated with WMP8!
