132094 2003-03-31 07:46:00 Thanks TIM.
YesI had a look at the Watchdog program yesterday and put it through its paces. Unfortunately the program security could be bypassed by using Safe Mode even though the option of disabling the boot keys were selected in the program's options menu. Disapointing really because the program has lots of features, but being able to get past the security that easily was surprising. Thanks anyway. Regards PF1 :-)

132096 2003-03-31 11:44:00 as most of you know i work in an net cafe, we have found the best way is not with a program but with windows restrictions . you can disable ANYTHING e . g taskmanager, desktop, downloads, fileaccess, Run . . . . . it goes forever
if you want to stop people from accessing a computer its all in your OS and don't forget a lock on your BIOS to prevent formatting and other nasties
don't forget you can set the lock on USERS do you have an ADMIN and a normal USER ;)
any question drop me an e-mail, only to happy to help

132097 2003-03-31 13:53:00 Am I correct in thinking that you have a dual boot system here? WinXP and WinME. NTFS file systems have more security than FAT32.

Depending on your computer and how it is set up just anyone may be able to get access to files. If you are only worried about file access then I suggest you encrypt just the folders or files you wan't to close from view. I won't be able to view them but I can delete them as I can get access to your computer maybe. Only if you leave the door open.

Having said that.... If you don't want ANYONE to start your computer then lock the room it is in. You can use a BIOS password to lock all access to the O/S and files but IF I have access to the room the computer is in I can in fact short the BIOS out and boot with a floppy disk or CDRom of my choice.
