132616 2003-04-01 06:38:00 Does anyone know a way to pipe a directory listing to a file that could refresh every 10 or 20 minutes. Im wanting to post it on a webserver so that i can view the process of my downloads from an external location. i need it to show the name of the file and the size.
Any help?

132617 2003-04-01 08:09:00 DOS/windows or Unix/Linux? I can't be specific otherwise.

You could use the task scheduler that came with your OS to run a script containing the command every X minutes.

132618 2003-04-01 08:53:00 Open a DOS window, navigate to the folder you want to list, and type:

dir *.* /v > filename.txt

that will list all the files in the folder to a file called "filename.txt" :)

132620 2003-04-01 11:02:00 It gives a bit more info about the files.

132621 2003-04-01 11:03:00 Yes, I should have made that shorter. I forgot to preview. bmason (508)
132622 2003-04-01 11:05:00 Well that is one feature they left out of XP. -=JM=- (16)
132623 2003-04-01 11:16:00 Is-int there a program, free download will print the directory from a windows environment without the need for the DOS command .

I think Robo might of found it sometime ago, and told the group .

Also if you do dir /? you can see other options like /o to put it in order .

132624 2003-04-02 06:40:00 Yea its win xp
and mikes suggestion might work i just have to see if i can get it to run on the scheduler
mcatley (662)
132625 2003-04-02 09:31:00 I would create a DOS batch file (they still work in XP right?) that looks something like the following and get the task scheduler to run it .

dirlist . bat:

@echo off

dir "C:\path\to\directory" > "C:\path\to\output . txt"

I'm not in windows currently so I haven't tested it .
