132594 2003-04-01 04:53:00 kazaa is a peer to peer application used for sharing and downloading movies, mp3's, images and software.

It's legality is a fuzzy area, because there really are no internationally agreed upon laws for the internet, but I guess at the end of the day you *can* be breaching copyright laws, it just depends on where you are as to which punishment you get (if any - I'm doubtful you'll get any punishment at all). However if the data you are downloading is copylefted, or has no copyrighting at all, then it's perfectly legal.

If you are interested in using it, get kazaalite instead, it has been stripped of spyware/adware found in the standard version of kazaa

132595 2003-04-01 04:53:00 Of course it's legal. :D Some things you can do with it might not be. ]:)

But watch out for the things it might do to you. I believe there is a "Lite" version which is less lilely to bite you.

132596 2003-04-01 05:04:00 *disclaimer* I know I'm right in my interpretation of the following, however NZ Justice/law may have other opinions, and they hold priority.

It's not illegal.

Just like driving a vehicle, what you do with it could be on the wrong side of the law, such as using it unlawfully, eg using it as a getaway in an illegal activity, driving without a seatbelt on, underage etc. But owning the programme, and using it for lawful purposes, as such, in no way contravenes any NZ law.
