132575 2003-04-01 03:53:00 I clean out my temp folders pretty regular, as well as having IE 5.5 empty temp on closing the browser, and when it is empty, if I right click on the folder, it still says I have 18.5mb of stuff in there, but it is empty. Any ideas? I guess there is another cache somewhere, but don't know how to find it. TIA supergran (108)

132578 2003-04-01 04:59:00 Thanks Stu, but I know where the temp internet files are, and the temp folder, but that is what I meant. I have those folders, and there subfolders empty except for a couple of files it won't let me delete, but it still says there are 18 point whatever MB in there. No, I haven't done a disc clean up, cos doesn't that reset all my cookies. They don't even take up half a mb, cos I only keep the ones I want. LOL There are some sites, I can't remember passwords to, so it is easier to go through the cookies individually. Ok, you got me, I forgot the cookies are there as well as in temp inter folder, as well as cookies, but they sure don't take up 18MB of space. supergran (108)
132579 2003-04-01 05:07:00 They might be "hidden". The View menu should let you show all files. Graham L (2)
132580 2003-04-01 05:10:00 You could try clearing out your index.dat files. Info is available on this forums FAQ section at this link: pressf1.pcworld.co.nz tommy (2826)
132581 2003-04-01 05:22:00 Thanks, Yes I did look for hidden files, and I am going to have a look at that link now Tommy, thanks. But just as an experiment, go to windows, after you have emptied your temporary internet folder, and see what yours reads. Could be just something weird with my puter, or could be cos I haven't reformatted in a year, but if I remember rightly, I had the same problem when I was running Windows 95 before I upgraded to 98SE. supergran (108)
132582 2003-04-01 06:22:00 Hi,

I use a program called BATCHRUN. Its a bit like using dos commands, but in this case, you don't need to go into a dos environment. You just click while in windows, and it's done.

Ok enuff said...! I delete my Temporary Internet Files using the DELTREE command and then recreate another Temporary Internet Files directory using the MKDIR command.

BATCHRUN is a program, that you can using in Windows environment, but also if your fluent in DOS commands, then you can create further cleaning by erasing your cookies, deleting Temp directory, etc and all the rest..(as I do) using Win2k.

Just an idea!

132583 2003-04-02 05:47:00 Press Start

Go to Run and type in %temp% and press OK

All will be revealed including the "hidden" files .

I seem to remember from memory the last 24 hours of temp files are not deleted when you empty temp in the normal way . I may be wrong .

This works for both Me and XP and most probably W98 too .

132584 2003-04-02 13:24:00 Hi Supergran,

It used to puzzle me to . The index . dat file can not be deleted from within windows . One way is to delete it from dos .

But I find it much easier and safer to use CleanAll . bat .
It automatically shuts down windows, reboots to dos and cleans out all unnecessary files .

Go to . langa . com/cleanall_bat . htm" target="_blank">www . langa . com and see whether it makes sense . Or you can put CleanAll . bat in the google search engine and it will take you to the website .

I also installed the nifty little file that starts the whole procedure from the recycle bin .
