| 132954 | 2003-04-02 10:55:00 | I ususally clean out cookies, internet cache, history, etc. with some utilities, which seems effective. It deletes cookies in C:/Windows/temp internet files/..... BUT, there is another folder - C:/windows/cookies that in there the cookies remain for about a year. Does anyone know, or can explain, why there are 2 places that the cookies are saved, and why? Do we need to have the 2 places ? Thanks, Bazza. |

| 132955 | 2003-04-02 19:32:00 | Bazza I am not sure why. It just is. Why do we have multiple directories in c:\windows\temporary internet files\ that seem to contain the same thing? We just do. We don't have to understand. Just accept. I looked in my cookies folder when I saw this posting and there were about 12 different files with AD at the begining. I mourn their departure. robo. |

| 132956 | 2003-04-03 00:14:00 | Ever used a decent file/folder display utility to uncover all the copies of index.dat (which among other things stores a copy of just about every URL you've ever visited - or had "popped up" on your screen outside your control?) When I last counted, there were 30-odd, and about half-a-dozen of them resisted deletion. And according to the URLs contained therein, I visit gay porn websites! Our Windows PCs are not our own. They belong to Microsoft, law-enforcement, and just about every spam marketer that cares to sneak something in. It's only the task of installing and learning a whole new OS that turns me off moving entirely to Linux. That and the feeling that the buggers will still get in some way. I probably will junk Windows one day soon. In the meantime, just track them down and keep them scrubbed regularly; Window Washer, Cache Sentry, AdAware.....all that good stuff. We don't have to put up with this. Any other recommendations? Argus |

I use Opera and find once having set up the preferences in "delete private data" then history, tenp folder and cookies are gone with one click. Takes maybe a minute or twoto set up, it's pretty straightforward and then you don't get this incessant chore of cleaning out like you do with IE or Explorer. Don't want to start a big war about IE/Opera but frankly it's one simple way to leave all that clutter and worry behind. Cheers mc :D |
