| 133241 | 2003-04-04 02:16:00 | We've just bought a new computer system windows XP and I'm trying to copy a lot of files, programmes data off our very old machine windows 98. In the past Ive used a programme FX.exe which has worked well between my old work computers - using a printer to printer parallel cable. But with the new computer iit cuts out with the fx.exe transfer. (The windows 98 computer doesnt have a USB port in case you wondering) Windows XP also comes with a wizard which states its easy to transfer files between computers using a serial cable. Got the computers to recognise a serial connection but the transfer and collection of files for transfer went for 36 hours and only 13% complete. I gave up! Does anyone know a reliable way to accomplish such a transfer? |

| 133243 | 2003-04-04 04:26:00 | What baud rate was it using? 110? :D Try using ZIP on each directory first. How much data is there? Can you boot the new computer with a DOS floppy to run your old programme? (An NTFS new disk would stop that working ...) An Ethernet network connnection would be nice. Putting the disk into the new computer would be quicker, and possibly easier than setting up a network.. |
