133152 2003-04-03 09:46:00 Maryann & I are now on our "Own" computers. PJ XP & M w98/2. WE have networked them & so far all is ok. However we want to share the printer & the scanner. I have gone thro the shared printer rigmarolle & printer will not work from Maryann's W98. On the XP the printer port is usb something on the W98 it is LPT1. I am guessing that is the problem, but what to do about it? There is no USB port on the W98 dropdown list. Can anybody help? Poppa John. Poppa John (284)
133153 2003-04-03 10:33:00 Your post is not totally clear. Which PC is the printer physically connected to? Have you installed the driver on the remote PC and set it up to print via the network? The method of connection (parallel port or USB) shouldnt make any difference. JohnD (509)
133154 2003-04-03 10:40:00 XP is the "Main" computer. The printer is physically connected to this. The printer disc was used in the W98 & all appeared ok. But the 98 will not work the printer evev tho it shows the "Printing Now " message. PJ Poppa John (284)
133155 2003-04-03 10:42:00 I'm having the same problem. I asked a guy at work today and he said I have to set the PC printer of the remote PC to be a network printer. Haven't tried that yet but I will be back to this tread if it doesn't work. Pete - Chch (3425)
133156 2003-04-03 10:48:00 If everything really is right, then uninstall and reinstall the printer driver at both ends. I have had this happen - no obvious fault - no error messages - just printing to a black hole. Reinstalling drivers did the trick. JohnD (509)
133157 2003-04-03 11:09:00 Have you told XP to share the printer?

Once it's sharing... you can install the printer by going add printer, checking network printer and then browsing for the name you called the printer. e.g. \\xpcomputer\printer

Open up my computer and click on View
-Folder Options

Its in there :-)

133159 2003-04-03 18:28:00 You may need to enable the guest login as well so it will share nicely.
The other option is to make a login on the XP machine the same as what the Win98 uses. Password as well.

I have the same setup as you (winxp/win98se) and have been having the same
problem not being able to print from the remote PC (win98), after messing around with a jetstream install.

Inspired by your request for help, I've just managed to fix it by:

switching on both PCs and the printer, going to the remote (win98) PC and in Settings/Printer deleted all printers (I had two showing).

Next, still in Printers, I clicked on Add Printer then selected "Network printer" and browsed to the shared printer on my main(XP) PC.

I had to reinstall the driver from the original printer disk.

Both PCs now have access to the printer

My wife says to thank you for getting me started! :)
