2003-04-05 08:26:00 | Beetle is having problems receiving her emails from her Clear Net account while connected to her Xtra account (also detailed in this thread (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz)). I have walked her through setting up the Clear Net email account in Outlook Express and as far as I can tell all the settings are correct but when she goes to Receive emails the Log On box comes up asking for her User Name and Password like it does when something is incorrect. As far as I can tell they ARE correct, eg the User Name is the same as her logon when connecting to Clear Net and ditto for the password. To confirm this she can logon, download her Clear Net emails and surf the web while connected to Clear. I have no problems receiving emails from any of my accounts using either of my ISPs (which are not Xtra nor Clear Net) so is there something I am missing with her setup or will Xtra and/or Clear Net not allow Beetle to use the other ISP to receive her emails? Does anyone here have Xtra and Clear Net accounts and do this?

2003-04-05 08:40:00 | AFAIK you should be able to retrieve e-mails from Clear while dialled up via Xtra. It would not be of surprise if they have blocked it, as they are direct competitors in NZ. You will not be able to send them however, as that constitutes "open relaying" which most (but not all) have banned. Using Eudora I can retrieve mail from 3 other ISP's (none being clear)while dialled in to Xtra. Can only send via one other than xtra however, without generating an error.

2003-04-05 08:53:00 | Oxie, they are trying to download mail from Clear not Xtra Why not give Clear help desk a call Susan and ask them if they have blocked access to the pop server unless they are dialed in and connected to Clear.

2003-04-05 09:15:00 | It will be Xtra, which is the problem. Xtra has block people with different ISP downloading they e-mails e.g. if I was connect to the clear network & I was waiting to get to my Xtra e-mails I would have to log off clear & re login to Xtra. Unless you use Xtra web mail. Hope this helps

2003-04-05 09:16:00 | Hmmm, interesting. I suspect they might be blocking each other but we need someone to actually confirm this. > Why not give Clear help desk a call Susan and ask them if they have blocked access to the pop server unless they are dialed in and connected to Clear. Beetle says she has phoned and spoken to three different people at Clear to try and sort it all out with no luck. They say they cannot understand why things do not work. A bit of a mystery at the moment, this one.
