| 133538 | 2003-04-05 06:54:00 | Zone Alarm is in my startup group, but periodically refuses to start up properly on boot-up, displaying the message, "The True (something) monitor will not start: Cancel?" Usually relaunching it manually solves the problem, but yesterday morning it didn't. Just kept giving the same error message. Then out of the blue, it came back (let me launch it properly). I went onto IRC, but it clearly wasn't resolving any servers, and there was no visible traffic on its on-screen "modem lights". Flipped up the Programs indicator, and there are red crosses against IRC and a number of other programs. (It had not asked me "do you want IRC to access the internet/ act as I server) as I might expect it to do.) I attempted to change the crosses back in the normal way, but they wouldn't change. Eventually, I turned off Zone Alarm and turned the internal XP firewall back on before returning to the internet. I deleted and reinstalled Zone Alarm and it now works fine. So no lasting problem: I just wonder what went wrong. Argus |

| 133541 | 2003-04-05 22:58:00 | The true vector monitor? Yes, that is/has been a common problem and it was bad enough for me to stop using Zone Alarm a while ago. No doubt newer versions of the program have addressed it but I am happy with Kerio so will not be attempting to find out. You have fixed it and it is good to know how you did it so that others can be helped in the future. :-) |
