133658 2003-04-08 09:12:00 I will recommend a new version of linux - although I haven't even tried it yet - YOPPER is a New Zealand made distribution. It is a 639.34MB download - kinda scratchy and doesn't like firewalls. There is an article on the PCWorld web-site.

Bootable from the CD supposedly too, with limited effect.

I have RC3 and its very good. GOod o the Kiwis for making it so good, and it was at top of distro watch for Yonks!

133661 2003-04-09 02:38:00 You shouldn't need to stuff around with other distributions. Now you've got your system working again, leasve it alone. It doesn't need to be "fixed" to add a file system module. Do "ntfs linux" to google, and read the first few links.

Then get the RPM and follow the instructions. When you mount the extra drive, the module will be loaded, and you will have a read-only NTFS directory tree at the mount point you use.

..You make it sound so easy.. I guess it is.

Did it ever get figured out how to mount the FAT32 drives (Liam was asking I think) so that the user could write to it and not just su?

I agree with that... i wont be messing with Sam to do this.
I of course do have a slug-beast (see original posting) that can have a life of a "guest drive" system. I am of course thinking of a machine that has the new drive placed in the "mobile rack" , is turned on, and turned off when i have taken what i wish from the drive.

Anyone got a CHEAP HDD they wanna sell, this is the only component i need to make the new addition to the family.

133664 2003-04-09 04:11:00 You should be able to do it on Sam non-destructively. :D Have a look at those google links. Just loading an RPM to make a new module available won't hurt him. Graham L (2)
